Few days ago a peculiar astronomical event put Mercury, the goal of BepiColombo mission, under attention. In fact, on November 11th (between 12:35 and 18:04 UT), Mercury passed over the disk of the Sun, and appeared as a small black dot migrating on it from east to west. The event was visible in South America, most eastern countries of US and most western countries of Africa. The occurrence of such event is a great occasion for astronomers to study the extremely tenuous atmosphere of Mercury, by analyzing at the same time the east and west terminators exospheric density profiles. All solar telescopes in the region of visibility were pointed at the Sun. The next Mercury transit will be in 13 years from now, in November 2032.
